Cherish

... protect & care for (someone) lovingly
... hold (something) dear
... keep (a hope or ambition) in one's mind

I'm sorry - when I heard the word today to discuss, all I can think of is Kool & the Gang from the 80's

... is it true he wrote that for his dying wife?... I'll have to google that now.  That was the rumor when I was in middle school.  But middle school is also the time full of made up drama.

Is anyone else singing it now in their head?

... cherish the love...

So much to cherish in life.
All the people we love - all the memories we have.

Kool & the Gang was onto something....

For me when it comes to myself & fitness though, I think of every day - how much it is something to cherish to have the ability to move & function & to have the means to try & take care of myself.

I know when I'm sick & I can't work out, or my schedule is so busy that I do good to get 'life' done, much less getting in a good sweat - its those moments that I really realize how much I cherish being able to work out - to make myself healthier & stronger.

It's something we should never take for granted....

it is a blessing to be able to move, to sweat, to push ourselves to be a better you.

& now I'm off to cherish memories of my 8th grade dance with Kool & the Gang playing in the background

... keep enough room for Jesus in the middle...

  1. I still have that song in my head as I'm typing! I can really relate to this post...ever since I had my accident in August I've constantly thought about how even though I have good and bad days with my arm, it could've been a lot worse, and I'm thankful it wasn't! I cherish the fact that I can still run!

    1. That's exactly it... things can ALWAYS be worse!

  2. No, I've been singing the much older "Cherish Is the Word I Use to Describe..." song by the Association. It would have much cooler to have thought of Kool & the Gang. Having family members that really can't (or won't) move much, I do appreciate the ability, or at least the desire, to be active.

  4. Haha, I teach middle school and yes, there is so much drama!
I am one who cherishes every little thing and I know I often sound silly when I randomly tell Scott "I am so thankful for our cozy bed" or " I am so thankful for our fireplace" or any other random "thing" I am cherishing at the moment!

  5. OMG that gif is hilarious! I also thought of Kool and the Gang, ha ha. I totally agree, it's a blessing to be able to move and we should cherish that every single day!

  6. You totally have that in my head, curse you, LOL For that, I think they also sing "Celebrate" yet another great song to get stuck in your head, LOL
Sidetracked, sorry:) But seriously you are right we really do need to cherish more things in our lives. On my worst days (because of this stupid work injury) the only thing that keeps me from tears sometimes is to remind myself that there are so many other things that I am thankful or in this sense cherish that are more important and that is where my focus should be on the good, not the bad.

  7. I cherish being able to work out and get a good sweat in too! There are many days where life gets too crazy and I don't get to workout or get in as much as I would like, so having this little reminder to cherish that time when I get it is perfect! Thanks for this.
