First full week of the new year... & my side still hurts...

Anyone already hate 2015?

No... no one does... right?

So Monday started me off with a bad day of starting to work out again.  Y'all are so encouraging, by the way.

But I did get back up on that old horse ... I mean, treadmill, & I walked again on Tuesday.  I did longer 2.21 miles ... & didn't hurt as bad.  That's good...

& then I had plans on resting on Wednesday & walking again on Thursday.

Only we had a church meeting on Thursday & didn't get home until almost 8 & then I was like, I'm going to be lucky to clean up for bed, much less work out.

How I came in the house heading to bed
... & it was basically this cold too...

No defeat.

I'm going to try & walk tonight.

I so desperately want to do something else.  Yoga, P90X3, my Just Dance 2014 Xbox game (because I'm cool like that)... but I'm scared to death to do anything other then walk.

Why?  Because my freaking stupid rib still hurts.

Yep - I finally got an x-ray, but as long as it took me to get the x-ray, the same frustration is happening getting the results.

I got the x-ray on Monday... It's Friday.  The doctor's office just told me, "We don't have the results yet"... when the x-ray place said it should be no longer then 48 hours.  What is the DEAL?... plus, the nurse told me that the doctor isn't in anyways so they couldn't tell me anything anyways if they got them.

Doctor's suck.

US healthcare sucks.

I am in pain.

I will say, it IS better.  But I still feel it.

When I went to sweep & mop my floor, I could feel that ache... so I'm scared to work out.

If it is an intercostal muscle sprain, I know those can take up to 6 weeks to heal... which my pain has been 6 weeks... but 6 weeks is supposed to be for people that pamper the area.  I have been putting up Christmas decoration, shopping, wrapping, on the go, since the side started hurting... & they say it is so slow to heal... so if it's that, I think any sort of working out where I pull my ribcage, I'm back to the beginning again.

if it is broke?  ... I don't know... I just can't believe after all this time, I don't know what's going on...

what I want to say to the nurse every time they tell me NOTHING

I don't do well with this...

Anyways, this wasn't a post to start freaking out about my side again... it just turned into that...

Needless to say, I'm trying not to let that stop me from MOVING...

I will say, I have been good at logging in my food all week at My Fitness Pal - so if anything, I think I made progress this first week of the year...

I'll take that...

Start of P90X3 ... & what gets me fired up about it

My P90X3 came in the mail last week.

it was sitting on my counter all weekend & I read the book that came along with it preparing myself for what was to come.

How I was all weekend waiting to start it

I was just excited to get a good work out in in 30 minutes instead of my whole evening.

I looked at my calendar & its 13 weeks long, which will take me literally to the week before Christmas. I like this.  It will get me through the holidays, but let me enjoy Christmas week without the pressure of having to work out.
This will NOT happen to me this year

& then it leads me right to the new year where I really am considering starting training for The Flying Pig half marathon... so maybe #PHM7 (Project Half Marathon 7) will be in full motion again... we'll see...

But know what gets my goat...

P90X3 isn't cheap.  It is $150 after shipping & handling... but I took the leap for the sake of having more time in my evening...

& I know this program is extreme.  I have to modify - especially the chin ups & all the things you have to do on a bar.... but I do it.

& then this morning, what do I see?

They are coming out with a new program called P90 ...

its supposed to be for ANYONE.  Tony Horton is teaching it, but its not 'extreme'... that one probably is what I would need more then any extreme workout I have to modify myself anyways.

so I'm ticked off....

I know I'll want the new program, but I'm not shelling out another $150.00 just yet...

bad timing - the story of my life....

Maybe at the end of this P90X3 - I'll be so tough, that I'll laugh at the easy P90 program...

I can dream, right?

Why I dont go to the doctor....

I'm not rich

Bam...

fastest post ever!

Seriously, every time I put something up about my knee, I get one, two a dozen comments about, "just go to the doctor"... "get it checked out" ... most of those comments are from my parents too.

I love that you all care.

I just wish it were easy.

My job, that I have been at for 22 years... I'm old... took away our health insurance about 6 years ago.

Anyone ever had to get their own health insurance policy?

its a joke... a big fat stupid joke.

What you pay for?  A lot of nothing...

I have to pretty much front everything on my own, all the while paying huge monthly premiums.

Seriously - I have a friend who is a fire fighter that had to just change to a family policy since he & his wife had a baby.... their amazing, fantastic health insurance is like $125 more then mine a month.  Their coverage takes care of 3 people... a baby on top of that.. & only $125 a month?

Stupid

So if I go to the doctor, I know there is nothing he can do besides tell me to ice it, keep it up, go easy, blah blah blah

... & if it still hurts, come back & we'll do an MRI

Well, he told me the same thing with my bicep tendon & my back pain...& guess what - I still never went back...

& why I'm still in pain.

I had to have an MRI for an emergency a few years ago & do you know, I just paid it off a few months ago.

Seriously.

So yeah, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to go to the doctor & get it checked & have an MRI to know what's happening...

anyone want to front that bill? ... yeah... its not as easy as it sounds.

This is me
or at least having it
but having a crappy plan

The even MORE frustrating thing is our work still covers the top big wigs of the company insurance policies.  How is that even fair?

A co worker that is on my level had some big health problems the past few years herself & ended up having to file bankruptcy... hearing her stories of how much she had to pay & the results of how it affected her whole life & that was the only thing she could do?  That scares the fire out of me...that's how awful personal health care is...

I hope this doesn't offend anyone.. I know you all just want the best for a blog-sister... I really appreciate that... I do... I just felt like I needed to explain so you all didn't think I was some weird naturalist hippy or something... which I kinda am... but not to that point where I'm an idiot.

So some people say if they hit the lottery, they're going to Disney World... yeah, I would too - right AFTER I had a huge round of MRI's!

1,600 calories to the media

So the story of The Biggest Loser is everywhere.  Definitely more attention to this one then any other season.

Talking to Chris Powell on Good Morning America - popping up on Inside Edition & Entertainment tonight - & of course, the trainers staying quiet, which makes a LOUD statement...

image

But last night on one of the shows, they were talking about Rachel's diet.  That she limits herself to 1,600 calories...

Do you know what those ignorant people did?

They said, 'THIS is 1,600 calories"... & they held up a bowl of something full of chocolate & a cream filled donut.

No joke.

That's what they were instituting was all she ate in a day...

I honestly laughed.

I mean, on my own calorie tracking device, my calorie intake is only supposed to be like 1,450 calories a day, before any exercise is included.

& yes, they said Rachel works out hours during the day, so her intake should be MUCH higher... that's not my point.

My point is that they totally gave the wrong impression of calories.  They made it look like all you can eat are 2 things during the day - giving the impression that no one can live on that - let's eat more.... of the unhealthy food like donuts & all things chocolate.

All this equals 1,200 calories

Not saying this picture above is what you SHOULD eat for 1,200 calories - but there's half of a burger & fries & a stack of bread...

You can eat all day long on 1,600 calories if you did it right...

For the normal every day person, 1,600 could be incredible amount of healthy food.

I kept thinking, this is what's wrong with our obese country.  People really have no idea how to really understand how many calories are in our food - how to figure it out for every meal, much less for a day.

heck, I DO understand it & its still a struggle.

But our media just makes it even more confusing for the average joe who now thinks they can have a diet of a bowl of chocolate & a cream filled donut for the day only & look like Rachel...

geez...

I tell you what though, it made me never want a cream filled donut again for the rest of my life... I knew it had a lot of calories, but didn't know it had THAT many...

I'd much rather have a plate of kiwi & some apples & have a TON of calories to still use for the rest of the day.

my 5th time...oh wait...nevermind

WHAS Crusade for Children

Around these part, starting in February, the Triple Crown of Running is what its all about.  It kicks off with the Anthem 5k, then moves onto the Rodes City Run 10k which happens 2 weeks later... & then another 2 weeks, its the big race.  The Papa John's 10 Miler.  That one goes down into the hills of Iroquois Park & ends with you running in Papa John's Stadium & your face on the Jumbotron.

That race actually made it into Runners World magazine as one of the top 10 mile races.

All these lead up to the big BIG race of the area. The Kentucky Derby Marathon or miniMarathon...

I just started running in 2009.  The 13.1 mile race was my first one. I totally skipped the Triple Crown ... didn't even know it existed.  I was new to this whole world.

But the next year, I was all informed & have been doing it ever since.

So I was excited to register for my 5th year...

until TODAY...

I found out the course was changed on the 5k & the 10k

OK... the 10k, I'm actually happy about.  The finish line is at the same spot, where its usually not... & I've totally hated that about that race. Progress.

Where the opposite of progress happens is with the 5k.  The race usually happens downtown.  Now, I live about a half hour away from downtown... in a different state actually.

To do a race where about 8,000 people run, it takes extra time to get in the area, find a parking spot, get to the race & THEN even get prepared with stretching & working the nerves out...

A race starting at 8 am, I would have to leave my house no later then 6:30...

& then today, they announced the route had changed & I thought, maybe this one changed for the better too.

Nope... this one isn't even in Downtown anymore.

its moved even further away to the east end of town... Seriously???

I googled the directions & it said it would take me 60 minutes to get there.  Are you kidding me?

I can't even think about the long drive

I could be a trooper & add in another half hour & leave no later then 6... but really?

I guess I'm not that dedicated.

I don't want to drive that far & wait that long for a 5k.

If it was half marathon, I would do it.  But a 5k?  It would take longer for me to get there then the actual race would take... not to mention coming back home.

I'm a Debbie downer today apparently.

I went onto Twitter & complained... as every American does when they're upset.
Then onto Facebook & complained some more on their page.

They got in touch with me & offered a refund for the race.

GOOD - you should.  Waiting till 1 month before the race & announcing route changes?

But now I'm bummed.  I hate ruining running streaks in a race.  Missing that shirt.  I'll have all the other years... but not 2014 now...

I'm REALLY a Debbie downer today if a missing t-shirt bothers me....

How far have you traveled for a 5K?

Do you hate missing a race when you've done it years in a row?

Anyone else letting the cold put them in "Debbie downer" mode?
